I had a nice write up in the Sunday edition of the Express-News (08/07/2011) by Writer Rene Guzman.  For those of you who get the Sunday paper, I made the front page of SA Life (and a nice size write-up) where they talked about my artwork and projects.

For those who don't get the paper, you can view the article and some of the pics at their website:

"From Fanboy to Fantastic" Sunday Aug 8th: www.mysanantonio.com/life/arti…

Rene has been awesome about getting the word out about my art through several of his "Geek Speak" column posts as well:

Chapulin COlorado art by Alfredo Lopez Jr: blog.mysanantonio.com/geekspea…

Artslam Strikes Back brings Star Wars to lice art show/Auction: blog.mysanantonio.com/geekspea…

SA Artist does Mickey Mouse as Wolverine: blog.mysanantonio.com/geekspea…

Getting the nod in the Sunday paper was a big deal for me and has already started to open some new artistic opportunities. My family, friends and I were extremely excited and I just wanted to share it with my DA family as well.

Got a couple of shows coming up soon here in San Antonio. Some very exciting ones. Lots going on. I've started getting back into Oils after talking with some other illustrators. I've painted in oils before but being impatient (and clumsy) means that they usually got ruined before they dried. However, after conversations with ppl like Tom Baxa, John Van Fleet and Dave Dorman I decided to jump back into Oils with a new, excited outlook.

I guess after working digitally and with acrylics, I found the oils to be less intimidating than I remember. Instead of working small, I opted to move directly into larger paintings while keeping all the advice in mind.

First is a group show with some old friends..I'll be testing the waters with a few new pieces.

Second will be a solo show with details to be announced soon.

About the new works:

Series 1: Creativity (a series of portraits of creative friends)... The photographer, The artist, the filmmaker, the model, the writer.

Series 2: Magi (portraits of magicians through the ages)Chung Ling Soo, Houdini, The Fox Sisters, etc...

Series 3: I'll be touching up some of the live art paintings I've done over the years.

Series 4: Prints of some of the recent Comic and Game art I've done. They're digital but will be shown as high quality large format prints.

Series 5: A series of nudes. Studying light and form.

Anyway, that's what I'm working on. I'll keep you posted on dates :)
